The Lazar Project

Stephen Lazar

Just outside of Los Angeles, interior designer Stephen Lazar and his life-long partner and husband Michael Grazer welcome us into their home. He is here to show us his noblessa kitchen transformation, and to share his insights on why he chose to design his custom kitchen with noblessa.

The Lazar Home’s freshly remodeled kitchen is inspired by the upscale formality of European designed living spaces. This modern California kitchen integrates sharp, clean lines with elements that speak directly to the owner’s eclectic personal style. The result? A custom kitchen with character, a kitchen that is a representation of Stephen & Michael in a physical form – uniquely sophisticated, with cosmopolitan appeal.

How would you define your interior design style?
Very Eclectic, my home that tells the story of love, life, and travel. A wonderful mix of new, and vintage, things that have caught my eye, memories of somewhere I visited and most of all create a conversation.
Where do you take inspiration from when designing?
Travel, Nature, and Art drives my design process. I really enjoy mixing color and texture.
Why did you choose noblessa to design your kitchen and new cabinetry?
Connection. As soon as I walked into noblessa Pasadena I not only admired the cabinetry, but I felt connected to the team. Besides sharing space with one of my favorite furniture showrooms, Cisco Home, they were a great interpretation of my own style.
What is a quote that defines your hosting style?
"Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!" The inimitable words of Mame Dennis in the wonderful movie Auntie Mame starring Rosalind Russell is my mantra.
Do you enjoy cooking and entertaining?
There is nothing I enjoy more than having friends and family over for dinner. Get togethers can be pretty spontaneous and I like to entertain casually, serve family style and always have something chocolate for dessert.
What is your favorite recipe to prepare?
Although I love to prepare simple grilled meat and fish with a delicious salad, nothing beats a great roasted chicken or slow chicken stew served over a bowl of polenta with cheese and butter.
What are the most important characteristics of a modern kitchen to you?
Easy access to everything you need, countertop flexibility and cleanability. I want a kitchen to look beautiful while hardworking.
